A friend called me and said that she’s not in a good mood.
“ You don’t have to be happy 24/7 unless you’re nuts like me, lol. It’s good to feel sad sometimes because it helps us to evaluate our lives while helping us to appreciate the good times.” I said.
“I don’t like feeling like this.”
“Put on your favorite record and start dancing,” I said.
“How could I dance when I feel so bad?”
“Try it and you’ll find out.”
This is how I counter a bad mood.
1) I close my eyes and take a deep breath.
2) I think of a beautiful place: a river, waterfall or a beautiful beach.
3) I turned on the radio if one is available and I dance. If someone sees me, I invite them to take part. They usually laugh but most of the times they may join me even when they think it’s unusual. Dancing takes away a bad feeling very fast. Did you ever see anyone dancing while in a bad mood? Never.
4) I start humming a song or I make one up. Humming is great for the soul. I am always humming even in my sleep, lol…
5) I do something good for myself like eating an ice cream or drinking a nice cup of warm tea.
6) I find out that closing my eyes for 5 minutes can have the same benefit as a nap. Sometimes, exhaustion can take its told on our moods.
7) I laugh, and laugh, and laugh and laugh again. Before long, I am in a good mood. And because laughter is contagious, everyone around me will benefit from my good mood.
Two hours later, I called my friend. She sounded as happy as The Thinking Cow.
